St. Christopher Episcopal Church
To Know Christ and Make Him Known
From the Pen of the Youth Director - August 2008
Dear St. Christopher Mates and Sheilas,

EYC was asked what it means to love out loud on our Week of hope in Austin, Texas. We had to
really ask ourselves what loving out loud means. So many times, we hold our love or thoughts for
others in our heart; inside.

I often say to people that I have been thinking of them; that he has been on my heart lately; that
when I think of her, I pray in my thoughts for her. Until this mission trip, I had never really
visualized the impact my love for others could have if I were to show it; outside my heart.

Loving out loud...Instead of waiting until I see people to tell them I am thinking of them or
praying for them. Why not step outside my house and offer my arms in a hug, without words?
Why not give of my time and my patience to someone needing to talk? Why not physically help
someone with a daunting task; perhaps a garage cleaning or a gardening effort? Why not put my
muscle into it by moving pounds of sand to another location? What about stocking 47,000 pounds
of food at a food bank, making it possible to feed thousands of families? These were a few of the
many ways we loved out loud in Austin, Texas.

We sat with children in their front yards and read Bible Stories to them; played games; taught
lessons of scripture through crafts and skits and delightful FUN. We brought Jesus to life so he
could live in the children's hearts.

Until this trip, I had forgotten all the ways I can love out loud. EYC hopes you will look into your
hearts and gather up the love that awaits you, take it into an action that will show others how
much you care and Love out Loud. Let’s love outside our minds and our hearts and even outside
our souls...think what a difference we will all make today, tomorrow and as long as we are living.
Living in God’s word. Walking in Jesus’ footsteps—

Loving Out Loud...serves...risks...forgives...and lasts. We want you to know that we experienced
the reward of doing these things in Jesus’ name, out loud. We encourage you to do as much of it
as you can. It may seem hard—where is the energy supposed to come from, you might ask? All
we can say is reach out and try—God gives it back to you in countless ways.

God Bless you for sending us on this adventure; one that will live on in our daily lives...and
hopefully yours.

In his Peace, <><
